Cynthia Nixon's VERY modern blended family: Son she shares with her wife was fathered by her Sex And The City colleague - while her transgender child and his brother have three women they call 'mom'

Cynthia Nixon has said that she's like her Sex And The City character 'in every single way' because of the way her real-life journey from a long-term relationship with a man to marrying a woman has mirrored Miranda's.

But while the small screen drama may have similarities to Nixon's own life, it doesn't have a patch on the complex reality of her blended family - where each of her three sons have a team of people they consider to be 'mom and dad' in a very modern set-up.

The Sex And The City star, 58, made headlines this week for speaking against Trump's Trans Care executive order at a protest in New York City, an issue close to her heart after her eldest son Seph came out as transgender in 2018.

Seph, 28, and his brother Charles, 22, are the children of Nixon and her ex-partner Danny Mozes. The couple divorced in 2003, after 15 years together, and a year later Nixon revealed she was dating Christine Marinoni.

Nixon has revealed how Seph and Max are lucky enough to have four parents - herself and Marinoni and Mozes and his new wife - and they refer to all the women as their mothers.

In 2011, Nixon and Marinoni welcomed their son Max, who was fathered by Sex And The City costume designer Michael Growler.

His husband William Bowers is considered the youngster's second father, making Max lucky enough to have two moms and two dads in his life.

Here, MailOnline looks into Cynthia Nixon's (pictured with wife Christine Marinoni) unique blended family, as the actress continues to advocate for transgender rights...

How Cynthia split from her ex-partner Danny Mozes and fell for Christine

Cynthia met her future wife Christine at an education rally in 2002 while she was still married to Danny Mozes, and they ended up becoming a couple two years later.

She split from the father of her two children after falling in love with the activist, despite only being with men before meeting her wife.

The duo began as close friends but their relationship turned romantic when the Sex And The City actress came out in 2004, after she finalised her divorce in 2003.

When they met, Christine was working as a community organizer and educator at the Alliance for Quality Education.

And Cynthia, who has been a longtime activist and organizer, became a spokesperson for the alliance.

But the actress' publicist wasn't so sure going public with her same-sex relationship was the best move.

She told Advocate: 'He just kept saying, "It's your life, and it's private, and that's it." And we kept asking, "That's the whole thing? We never move past that?" We're at the playground with the kids, and pictures are taken of us, and we say, "No, she's my friend?"'

Cynthia fired that publicist and her next one encouraged her to go public with her relationship.

Cynthia had two children with her ex-husband and high school sweetheart Danny Mozes, who she was with for fifteen years before the couple seperated in 2003

The actress and education activist got engaged in 2009 at a rally to support gay marriage in New York, which was not legal at that time.

They decided to wait to marry until it was legal to do so in New York state, which occurred in 2011 and so tied the knot in 2012.

Speaking to Radio Times in 2017, the star admitted: 'I had never dated a woman before or even kissed a woman or anything, and so when we started seeing each other, Christine kept waiting for the other shoe to drop,  for me to panic about what this would mean – to my career or to myself – as if somehow I just hadn't noticed that she was a woman.'

Describing her wife as 'basically a short man with boobs', she said that she'd never been attracted to a woman before meeting her.

In 2012, she caused controversy by saying that she hadn't always been gay and insisted that it was a 'choice' for her.

She later doubled down on her comments, saying: 'For me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it's not, but for me it's a choice, and you don't get to define my gayness for me.'

They welcomed Seph Mozes, who is now 28, in 1996 and Charles Ezekial Mozes, now 22, in 2002.

Seph, who also goes by Samuel, came out as transgender in June 2018, with Cynthia announcing the news in a sweet Instagram post to celebrate him graduating from college.

In an incredibly unique situation, both Seph and Charles each have three women they call 'mom'.

Cynthia and Danny remained close friends after divorcing and the duo have since raised their children together in a blended family that also includes their new partners.

Cynthia's ex Danny, who she remained good friends with, married a woman who is widowed and has two children.

The family is so interlinked to the point where Cynthia and Danny's wives are considered their second mothers, rather than their stepmothers, meaning they have three mothers and one father each.

Opening up on the family's unusual situation, the actress told The Times: 'You know, my oldest child is trans, but when he was 13 and he had what was at that time a bat mitzvah.

'One of our old friends got up and made a speech about him and talked about Sam’s [Seph's] four parents and what each of those four people are like, and how you can see all those threads running through Sam’s interests and aptitudes and abilities.'

Her youngest son Max also has four parents

Sex And The City costume designer Michael Growler and his husband William Bowers are referred to by the actress as Max's 'dads'.

Christine gave birth to Max in February 2011 and it's believed that Growler is his biological father.

The youngster spends one night a week with his dads and the rest of his time with his two mothers.

Although Max was carried by Christine, Cynthia gushed that she has no concerns about not being biologically related to him, after giving birth to her two eldest.

She told The Times: 'I feel like the dynamics are gonna be there, whether those children are your biological children or not.'

Back in 2019, Cynthia revealed the identity of Max's father as she shared a photo of the young boy being outfitted in his Halloween costume.

She wrote: 'When your dad’s a costumer and you always wanted to be Pennywise...'

Michael and Cynthia have a relationship that stretches back decades, having first worked together on Rabbit Hole.

He also worked with the actress on both Sex and the City films, and in 2017, the pair headed back to the Great White Way for Little Foxes.

Her 'sister' and some of her friends also have transgender children

Although she grew up as an only child, Cynthia recently revealed that her 'sister' and some of her friends also have transgender children as she attended a protest in New York City

Although she grew up as an only child, Cynthia recently revealed that her 'sister' and some of her friends also have transgender children as she attended a protest in New York City.

It's unknown whether she was referring to a stepsister or a close friend she considers to be a sibling.

The former Sex and the City star took to the mic at the Pro-Trans Children protest to speak about President Trump's Trans Care executive order and how it 'cannot happen in New York.'

'Most importantly, I am here today as the mother of a proud trans man,' Cynthia said as the packed crowd in St. Vartan park roared.

'I am here today as the aunt of a proud trans man,' she continued. 'My best friend's kid is trans and my kid's best friend is trans.'

'My wife and I - our lives are filled with the most amazing, beautiful, brave trans people - young and old, but especially young.'
