I'm a seasoned traveler with hundreds of flights under my belt, having been everywhere from Guatemala to Turks & Caicos to Arizona. While the travel experience is always worth it in the end for me, flying can be an unpredictable adventure, especially during busy seasons. With record-breaking numbers of passengers taking to the skies, packed airports, and long security lines, the whole experience feels like an endurance test sometimes. But what if you could skip the chaos? Enter JSX, a public charter jet service that offers a stress-free experience without the crowds. Here's the breakdown of my Dallas to Miami trip with JSX.
What Is JSX?
JSX offers a private jet-like experience at a fraction of the cost, with one-way fares that range from $150 to $1,000. Flying out of smaller, private terminals, it skips the usual airport chaos, allowing quick check-ins and no long security lines. With a fleet of Embraer 145 and 135 jets, each seating 30 passengers, JSX nails the relaxed flight experience in my opinion, especially when it comes to spacious seating and its long list of amenities. JSX is also making strides toward greater sustainability with hybrid-electric planes that reduce carbon emissions and even cut down on noise pollution, starting in 2028.
What I Like About Flying JSX
My flight on JSX from Dallas to Miami was a refreshing departure from my usual experience with commercial air travel. Here's a breakdown of my flight, step by step.

9:30 AM – Arrival: As soon as I arrived, I noticed how different the experience was compared to a traditional airport. There were no massive crowds to maneuver through and no long security lines. Instead, I walked straight up to the check-in desk and got my boarding pass in minutes. I didn't have to go through a metal detector. Instead, they swabbed my carry-on as part of their TSA-approved security program and took my checked luggage (two checked bags are included with your fare). The whole check-in process took less than a few minutes.
9:40 AM – Lounge Time: After check-in, I had some time to relax in the lounge. There were plenty of seats, and the space was calm and quiet, which was a welcome change from the hectic, overcrowded terminals I'm used to. I was able to grab some complimentary snacks, drinks, and coffee while I relaxed and enjoyed the peace and quiet before my flight.
9:50 AM – Boarding: Boarding began promptly at 9:50 AM. No need to wait in long lines or line up by boarding zones. JSX has a simple, efficient process where everyone boards at once, and the lack of overhead bins means there's no scrambling to find space for your carry-on. The boarding was so efficient that I was seated by 9:56 AM, a far cry from the usual long waits.

9:56 AM – On the Plane: The JSX seating is unique, with single seats in the first two rows and a 2-seat configuration throughout the rest of the plane. I was in the exit row, which, of course, had extra legroom and space for my belongings. Without overhead bins, boarding was quicker with no delays from passengers searching for storage.
10:04 AM – In the Air: I was initially worried that flying on a smaller aircraft might result in a bumpy takeoff, but everything went smoothly. Once airborne, I was offered a complimentary alcoholic beverage and a selection of snacks. One feature I loved is that the restroom was more spacious and cleaner than typical commercial flights. Another standout feature was the included Starlink Wi-Fi, which was fast so I was able to easily stream a movie I've been wanting to see.

1:53 PM – Arrival: After landing, the jet made its way to the private hangar. We waited just a few minutes for our checked luggage to be brought out for collection. Once I grabbed my bags, I headed over to the lounge, where you can relax with a drink and snack while arranging transportation to your next destination.
Who Is JSX Best For?
JSX is perfect for travelers who want to skip the chaos of traditional airports without the high cost of a private jet. It's ideal for those who value time, comfort, and peace of mind, offering a more streamlined experience for group or business trips, or travel to smaller cities. For travelers who fly particular routes regularly, it's worth considering.
What's Worth Noting About JSX
Flying with JSX does have some limitations. While its network is growing, it doesn't offer as many routes as major airlines, and often there's only one flight per day on available routes. I had to plan my trip around the few flights they offered while major airlines have a vast selection and more flexibility in that regard. You'll need to check jsx.com for routes that fit your travel needs (note: the West Coast has more options than the East). And expect to pay a premium for the smoother, more convenient experience with one-way fares that start around $150 and can cost up to $1,000. JSX is ideal for specific travel patterns rather than every trip, and with only 30 seats per flight, bookings can fill up quickly.
If you frequently travel between JSX's served routes and value time over cost savings, this service offers a genuinely different experience than what I'm used to, one that I thoroughly enjoyed. The streamlined check-in process, absence of long security lines, and efficient boarding created a notably calmer travel day for me though, as I mentioned, you'll pay more for those conveniences.
