When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted one last trip with my girls before baby boy arrives. A friend introduced me to the concept of a hatchelorette and I was instantly on board. It's like a bachelorette for expectant parents: a chance to unwind, bond with your crew, and enjoy some pampering before parenthood kicks into full gear. Some people even choose to do a hatchelorette trip it instead of the standard baby moon or baby shower. After a year-long battle with unexplained infertility and going through IVF, I needed this break more than ever.
We headed to Guanacaste, Costa Rica to stay at El Mangroove, an Autograph Collection resort by Marriott. Just a quick drive from Liberia Airport, the beachfront property is surrounded by greenery and gives you the feeling of being tucked into nature. I spent my days by the adult-only pool sipping mocktails while my girl sipped cocktails, enjoying the peace and tranquility. And when I come back with my baby, I'll definitely be checking out the family-friendly pool too – and transition back to cocktails, of course.

El Mangroove is a wellness-focused, eco-conscious resort, and it was an ideal setting for my first full-on wellness retreat. I received my first prenatal massage, did yoga, participated in a cacao ceremony, and experimented with meditation and sound healing — the last of which was the most powerful and emotional experience of the trip. The resort's wellness programming was thoughtful and intentional, and it made me feel refreshed even as the stress of preparing for a new baby looms.
Of course, no hatchelorette trip is complete without amazing food. Three on-site restaurants — Malu, Matisse, and Makoko — served up fresh, locally sourced dishes that were both flavorful and nourishing, and baby boy and I enjoyed. Overall, it was a relaxing, restorative retreat that you'd enjoy whether you're pregnant, celebrating something special, or just need a reset. Here's what I packed at 16 weeks pregnant.

Compression Socks
Hi Clasmix Graduated Compression Socks ($18)
A recommendation from my doctor before traveling is to wear compression socks on long flights. My flight to Costa Rica from Atlanta was four-hours long so the compression socks helped promote blood circulation and oxygen flow. I also walked around a couple of times to stretch and move my legs and feet. Thanks to the socks, I had no pain or discomfort after these flights.

Bagsmart Travel Toiletry Bag ($30)
This toiletry bag is perfect for storing all of my beauty and toiletry items when I travel. It features four different compartments including spaces for my makeup brushes so they don't soil my other essentials. There's even a waterproof section to keep my wet items away from the rest of my belongings. It's clearly functional — and the pink shade adds a stylish, playful touch.

A Deodorant Spray
Lume Invisible Spray Deodorant ($30 for pack of 2)
Lume deodorant is my holy grail for all over my body to stop odor before it happens; I use it every day when it's brutally hot in the south and of course, when traveling to Costa Rica. I love the soft, Clean Tangerine scent and that the product is aluminum- and baking-soda-free. I used this under my chest and other areas where I tend to sweat during the trip.

A Portable Pregnancy Pillow
Momcozy Portable Pregnancy Pillow ($26, originally $33)
I never go to sleep without my giant Momcozy pregnancy pillow at home, so for my first trip since being pregnant, I knew I needed a travel-friendly option. This portable pregnancy pillow is compact, adjustable, and molds to my body like it was custom made just for me.
One thing I didn't realize before pregnancy is that side-sleeping is highly recommended — but as a lifelong back sleeper, that's been a challenge. This little W-shaped pillow makes all the difference for me as I adjust. It supports both my back and growing belly, and I actually wake up without aches. Between that and the comfy beds at El Mangroove, I got some of the best sleep I've had in weeks.

A Nourishing Hair Mask
Amika Soulfood Nourishing Hair Mask ($34)
Amika has slowly taken over my hair routine, especially when I know I'll be swimming. Their nourishing mask is great for damaged, dry hair and adds moisture and shine. With jojoba oil and sea buckthorn, it softens my hair immediately and makes it smooth to the touch.

A Strapless Bra
Shapermint Strapless Bra ($37)
This bandeau bra from Shapermint has been a life saver. Since I have a fuller bust, it was tough to find a strapless bra without underwire, until I discovered this one. This bra is lightweight and has just the right amount of stretch. I could barely feel it and it gave a nice lift under my strapless outfits. The best part? The silicone grip helps it stay put all day so I don't have to tug at it.

Mineral Sunscreen
Dr.Jart+ Every Sun Day Mineral Korean Sunscreen SPF 50+ for Face ($40)
I'm a huge fan of K-beauty, so when it came to sun protection for this trip, I did my homework. After checking in with my gynecologist, she recommended switching to mineral sunscreen as most traditional formulas contain chemicals that aren't ideal during pregnancy. This option shielded my face from the intense Costa Rican sun, felt super lightweight, and left a matte finish without the white cast.

A Smart Water Bottle
Boost Smart Water Bottle ($55)
Hydration is key when traveling, especially if you're pregnant. This bluetooth-enabled water bottle connects with an app to check how much water I am drinking and offers reminders to sip more. It's also insulated with stainless steel so my water stays at a good temperature throughout the day. On vacation, it's easy to get out of your routine so this helped me stay on track.

A Comfortable Sneaker
Adidas Samba OG Sneaker ($75, originally $100)
I'm obsessed with Sambas. They're comfortable and go with practically everything in my closet from dresses to jeans. Since I'm pregnant, wearing heels right now is not high on my priority list but thanks to the Sambas, I still felt stylish. These are my go-to sneakers for every trip and are great for walking around the airport as well.

An Easy Jumpsuit
Free People FP Movement Hot Shot Jumpsuit ($70)
One brand that does bump-friendly fashion extremely well is Free People. This jumpsuit is the perfect example; it was effortless and super comfortable for the Cacos and Sound Healing class I attended. It's free-flowing so I was able to move around easily and without constriction. It also has pockets, which is a plus for any outfit. Since I have to go the restroom frequently during pregnancy, I was grateful that this jumpsuit comes on and off easily.

A Maternity Dress
Bumpsuit The Brigitte Maternity Dress ($135)
I couldn't wait to wear body-con dresses to show off my bump and Bumpsuit offers plenty of comfortable and fashion-forward options. The Brigitte is double-lined and has the perfect amount of comfortable stretch. It makes my bump look great and now I want one in every color! Best of all, these dresses can be worn after pregnancy as well.

A Roomy Maxi Dress
L'idee Deesse Gown ($500)
Since becoming pregnant, I realized I can find great bump-friendly clothing by just sizing up. This L'idée Deesse gown is stunning and I wore it for my birthday dinner at Makoko Restaurant, as I enjoyed some delicious lobster with the sound of the ocean breeze in the background. The dress is super flowy with a halter neckline and a low back, appropriate for a beautiful tropical resort on the ocean. The purple tone was absolutely stunning and I got so many compliments.
