In a nutshell: You wait ages for some GTA 6 news, then two bits arrive at once. Following yesterday's hint by Corsair that the PC version will arrive in early 2026, we now hear that Rockstar has reportedly met with Fortnite and Roblox creators about building custom experiences inside the game.

Three anonymous industry insiders told Digiday that Rockstar has had discussions with the Fortnite and Roblox creators, along with those who create content for GTA Online. The report claims that Rockstar wants to allow creators to modify GTA 6's game environment and assets to bring their own intellectual property into its sandbox, presumably referring to GTA 6's online element.

The conversations are said to have remained relatively open-ended, and it's unclear how creators would benefit from bringing their IP and audiences into GTA 6 – beyond the exposure. As with several other games featuring user-generated content, monetization – through a cut of virtual item sales or revenue sharing – is likely for creators.

Fortnite's stats

In 2023, Rockstar announced that it had acquired CFX.RE, the group behind some of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2's most popular modding tools. The FiveM and RDR2 RedM mods allow players to play multiplayer modes on customized dedicated servers.

The move was a surprise given that Rockstar banned those behind the FiveM mod in 2015 due to it containing "code designed to facilitate piracy." Publisher Take-Two Interactive was even alleged to have sent private investigators to the home of the FiveM mod founder in order to intimidate him into shutting down his project.

Rockstar's apparent push into user-generated content and a metaverse experience for GTA 6's online element is another sign that we won't be waiting too long before the game gets its PC release.

GTA 6 is still scheduled to launch on consoles this fall, according to Take-Two's last earnings call. And while the company says it remains committed to the platform, there is still no official release date for GTA 6 PC.

However, this week brought news that we might not be waiting as long as other GTA games for a PC version: Corsair Gaming's financial VP, Ronald van Veen, said that an early 2026 release was likely.
