After a long, long while of waiting and teasing, Lucasfilm is finally ready to give us a look at what to expect from the second season of Andor—and it looks like Cassian and the nascent rebel alliance alike are ready to take the fight to the Empire.
Although we got to see a miniscule glimpse of the season a little while back, today Lucasfilm dropped our first full trailer for Andor season two, showing us a lot more of Diego Luna’s return to the galaxy far, far away in the Rogue One prequel series.
The new trailer paints a much more confident picture of the dissent we saw fomenting throughout Andor‘s first season, as Cassian becomes an increasingly major player in what will become the Rebel Alliance by the time season two wraps up—on the very eve of Rogue One‘s opening, bringing his revolutionary journey full circle.
But not only is Cassian in play here, we get to see plenty of intriguing glimpses throughout here for Andor‘s other players: there’s a lot of intriguing shots of Mon Mothma as she seemingly heads back home to be enmeshed in Chandrila’s marital traditions after making a proverbial deal with the devil over her daughter’s future in season one, there’s plenty of Saw Gerrera’s growing partisan front taking the fight to the Empire, and intriguingly there’s only a few fleeting shots of Luthen, and whatever plans he has in shaping the rebellion to come.
There’s also even more familiar faces from Rogue One, in the form of returning stars Ben Mendelsohn and Alan Tudyk, reprising their roles as Director Orson Krennic and K-2S0, respectively. We see Dedra Meero and Syril Karn preparing for whatever fresh hell those two Imperial sickos are going to be up to, and even a tantalizing glimpse of Adria Arjona’s Bix getting directly involved in Cassian’s revolution too.
Suffice to say, there’s a lot going on, and Lucasfilm is seemingly going to take a very interesting path in telling that story. Although we’ve known for a while that Andor season two will be split across multiple major time jumps as it advances closer and closer to the events of Rogue One and A New Hope, today the studio confirmed that the 12-episode sophomore season will release as a series of three-episode chapters each week, rather than a by-episode basis.
The first three episodes of Andor will release on April 22, with subsequent chapter drops releasing on Disney+ for the next three weeks after that.
