The Gear You Need to Keep Fit, Rested, and Balanced

1 week ago 4

Supplements are nice and all, but when it comes to overall health and wellness, a little (or a lot) of gear goes a long way. Exercise equipment, cooking tools, relaxation gadgets—all these things help us live our best lives. Or, at least, lives that are more fulfilling. (Looking at you, vibrators.) Below are our picks for the gear you might need on your own road to wellness.

These tiny earbuds help you fall—and stay—asleep by blocking external noise with a range of soothing tones. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Bose launched the originals in 2018 but canned the tech in 2023. Ex-engineers N.B. Patil, Charles Taylor, and Brian Mulcahey didn’t want to give up their dream, so they bought the trademark and reengineered the buds to include biometric sensing technology to monitor your movement and respiration, and added sensors for light, sound, and temperature to the charging case for a better overview of your sleep and environment.

Orgasms aren’t just fun—they reportedly also reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost your mood. Smile Makers offers a range of bright and unthreatening toys to tickle all the good bits. The range includes the clitoris-teasing Firefighter; G-spot finding Romantic; and the Whisperer, a gentle, non-phallic plaything developed by, and for, new mothers seeking to reconnect with themselves after child-birth and enjoy those big O benefits.

B vitamins are essential in energy production, nervous system health, red blood cell formation, and cell growth. You should get enough via a healthy, balanced diet, but these energy-boosting patches (sold in packs of 30) offer a backup, with a 12-hour transdermal release of all the key B vitamins, including B12 methylcobalamin, offering an energy uplift without the inevitable crash.

Nettle

Billed as the only medically certified hormone- and drug-free treatment for premenstrual syndrome and menstrual pain, the Nettle is a head-mounted wearable designed to boost focus and cerebral performance at key periods in a woman’s cycle. Worn for 20 minutes a day during the luteal phase, Nettle mimics the brain’s activity during the follicular phase—which, its maker claims, helps combat pain, cramps, low mood, and brain fog.

This portable sauna is an easy way to experience a restorative, solitary sweat at home. With 1,600 watts of steam power and a 4-liter reservoir, the SaunaPod gets up to about 120º Fahrenheit, but the high humidity inside the insulated pod makes it feel closer to 190° F. It looks bulky, but it packs flat and is light enough to lift from the porch to the backyard. You can even travel with it.

This writer can’t surf, but as part of ankle-fracture rehab, I’ve been training like a pro. Balance boards like this one, handmade using cork and FSC Certified wood, are brilliant for joint rehabilitation when paired with a roller or a ball underneath. At the same time, they build core strength and improve agility and reaction speed. Being longer than a typical balance board means it can be used to practice surfboard footwork, weight shifts, and even pop-ups, so it’s a good intro to the sport for landlubbers.

The excellent Forerunner gets a serious upgrade with an eye-searingly bright 1.4-inch AMOLED screen, a tough sapphire lens and titanium bezel, and an oddly practical LED flashlight. Internally, the fifth-gen heart sensor enables ECG readings and improved health insights, while the new Running Tolerance metric helps runners understand the real impact of their weekly miles. Adding the $170 HRM 600 chest strap unlocks even more tracking features.

A current favorite of WIRED’s product reviewers, these exceptionally comfortable sports headphones use an open design to keep you aware of your surroundings. The hooked earpieces position the drivers directly over the ear, firing audio where it counts. And, despite lacking the in-ear seal of a typical earbud, the quality 14.2-mm dynamic drivers sound great. There’s also an IP54 splash protection rating and enough battery for 30 hours of Jock Jams.

Joseph Pilates invented his particular genre of torture in the 1920s, and while his core-busting, posture-improving, flexibility-enhancing workouts have never been more popular, the typical reformer machine looks more like a medieval rack than a wellness aid. But with Reform, Technogym is merging high-end, interior-friendly design with maximum functionality. A beautiful blend of wood, vegan leather, and aluminum combine with app-guided classes to offer the ultimate in at-home Pilates workouts, with virtual instructors there to coach you through every body-trembling twist.

Celebrating NordicTrack’s 50th anniversary, this luxe treadmill features white oak trim and an 80-watt sound system, plus eight strategically placed fans to cool you from head to toe as you run. A new ultra-stable deck design means that no matter how fast or hard your AI coach makes you pound fake pavement, the control area and display remain perfectly stable.

Morpheus was big on the dire warnings about life as a human battery, but if he’d seen the benefits of juicing his Nokia 8110 with just 15 minutes of people power, he might have seen things from the machine’s point of view. This iF 2025 Gold Award–winning design is a brilliantly versatile 2,000-watt-hour battery—but with pedals. It can be configured as a pedal desk, recumbent rider, or classic exercise bike, and a one-hour spin session generates enough energy to fully charge your laptop. If you aren’t pedaling quite hard enough to fill the tank, you can plug in solar panels or micro wind-turbines, or even just connect the whole thing to a wall socket to get that power bar all the way up. It’s intended to be used as a backup battery in the event of a blackout or other emergency; once fully charged it can store enough juice to keep appliances as large as a fridge going for up to three days. The adjustable touchpoints help pedalers up to 7'6" tall and 330 pounds get comfy. The front has USB and AC output, There’s also a wireless phone charger on top.

Available in 9-, 10- and 11-inch designs (to fit the littlest limes to oversize oranges), this durable stainless steel and cheery polypropylene fruit juicer extracts every drop with minimal effort, thanks to the two-handed sideways pivoting mechanism. Besides putting the squeeze on your citrus, the fold-flat design means it can slot comfortably into even the most chaotic kitchen drawer.

We’ve lost count of the number of hydroponic startups that promised to deliver a kitchen-full of fresh herbs and salad fixings without the need for green thumbs. Terrible pun aside, Lettuce Grow has taken a different approach. Instead of supplying seed pods, it sends customers a selection of healthy, pesticide-free seedlings which can be slotted into a US-made, self-watering, self-fertilizing hydroponic system. Following a once-weekly maintenance schedule, you should see consistent results while also using 95 percent less water than traditional gardening.

Poppi’s eye-catching sodas contain digestion-aiding apple cider vinegar, gut-bacteria-friendly prebiotic fiber from agave inulin, and just 5 grams of sugar. Fear not, buzz-chasers—there’s still 32 to 55 milligrams of natural caffeine.

Spanish Light Avocado Oil Spray

Avocado oil is delicious, nutritious (it’s rich in oleic acid, polyunsaturated fats, carotenoids, and various nutrients), and easy to cook with. Good Phats avocado oil is a cold-pressed, virgin oil that’s been extracted from Spanish Hass and Fuerte avocados and has a high smoke point of around 519° F. Unlike lesser avocado oils, this one contains no added water, emulsifiers, or chemicals and has been bottled with nothing more than compressed air. Just spray and sauté.

Developed in collaboration with neuroscientist (and podcaster) Andrew Huberman, these lenses have been designed to block blue and green light in the 400–520 nm wavelength range, which has been shown to suppress melatonin and keep you from mellowing out as effectively at the end of the day. Available in frame styles that range from staid to sporty, wearing these injection-molded nylon specs for 90 minutes before bedtime will help keep your circadian rhythm in balance, enabling you to nod off that bit more easily.

In 2014, former soccer player Graham Dugoni noticed the need to digitally detox from the San Franciscan tech boom and help people regain their focus. His original lockable pouch proved a success in schools, but for home, this bamboo-topped, signal-blocking, lockable box is a little more refined. Designed to safely store smartphones during phone-free periods, at 10.5 x 10.5 x 4 inches it’s big enough for a clutter of smartphones. It also incorporates a handy cable-routing panel so your distracting devices can top up while you chill out.

The ReMarkable tablet has no social feeds, no app store, and no notifications: Its monochrome 10.3-inch display mimics paper, creating a more zen-like space for writing. At 0.19 inch thick and weighing less than a pound, it’s incredibly portable, and the battery lasts up to two weeks. And if you do demand a little more from your mindful moments, the Type Folio keyboard transforms it into the most elegant of digital typewriters.
